Hart Lothar Wegner (1931- )
Nevada Writers Hall of Fame 1990
Born in the Silesia region
of Poland, educated in Europe and at the University of Utah and Harvard in the
United States, Wegner's fiction registers his allegiance to two continents.
His American works include numerous pieces of fiction in literary journals and
book reviews in scholarly journals. Wegner is a professor of German, Comparative
Literature, and Film Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has
also served as Chair of its Film Department. In the late 1960s, he founded the
free Thursday-night
International Film Series at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He received
the Pushcart Prize for 1984/85
and the Charles Vanda Prize for Excellence in the Arts at UNLV in 1989. He was
honored with the University of Nevada Regents' Award for Creative Activities
in 1994. He also received the William Morris Award for Excellence in Teaching.
He serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Religion & Film,
