About the Knowledge Center: Features, Resources, and Services

• At 295,000 square feet, this five-story classical brick building is nearly twice the size of the now retired 177,000 square foot Getchell library, built in 1962.
• A 163-seat auditorium with stage, allowing to the Knowledge Center to function as a hub of exciting cultural events for the campus and community, as we hold literary readings, academic lectures, outreach programs, film festivals, and more.
• Spacious faculty and graduate student reading rooms have been designed for comfort, including the warm and inviting Tower Reading Room and magnificent Rotunda Reading Room.
• The Dynamic Media Lab is a place for up-and-coming filmmakers to develop multimedia projects.
• The computing and DataWorks labs and services have high-end hardware and software for data visualization, geospatial maps, and more.
• An art gallery, sculpture garden, special exhibit areas, the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame, and the Book Nook used bookstore are additional areas to browse.
• The Basque Studies Library and Center for Basque Studies is housed in a larger, more prominent and accessible area near the third floor North Entrance.
• Over 1 million volumes of books and journals, plus 15,000+ electronic journals and a growing collection of electronic books will be readily available to the campus community.
• An automated retrieval center, called "MARS", houses books and journals that receive lighter use, opening up more study space for heavily-used materials. MARS accommodates four times the volume of traditional shelving and retrieves materials in less than 15 minutes.
• Bytes Cafe, serving Peet's Coffee, located near the second floor North entrance.
